Two brutal street crashes in Assembly District 53
In one week in Assembly District 53, two crashes left two people badly hurt. A woman’s leg torn on Manhattan Ave. A cyclist’s head split on Broadway.
Brooklyn’s 53rd Assembly District saw two crashes in seven days. Two people were seriously hurt. No one died this week. The streets still read like a warning.
On Manhattan Avenue near Grand Street a northbound sedan struck a 33‑year‑old woman who was not in the roadway. Her lower leg was torn. She stayed conscious as parked SUVs stood smashed around her.
On Broadway at Lorimer Street an SUV driver went north through the signal and into an eastbound cyclist. The rider hit the pavement with a bleeding head wound. Police cited traffic control disregard and failure to yield.
Assembly Member Maritza Davila backs safety bills. District 53 now needs that work turned into slower traffic and safer crossings.
